Valentine’s Day at SSD

I had one of the best Valentine’s Day this year! I spent it with my kids at SSD, which is a self-sustaining orphanage on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. They grow their own food and raise their own animals. The kids are so kind and gracious and happy, despite the fact that they have next to nothing. It really proves that material possessions do not make us happy, it is who we surround ourselves with and how we interact with the world around us.

For the first hour and half I was there we played volleyball in the sunshine. It was so good to hear them laugh and just let go for a little while. These kids are literally in school all day long and then they work at the orphanage (they are still in the process of renovating the buildings on the compound) and then they come to English classes with me. So to goof off and have fun is a luxury in and of itself and it was great to be a part of that.
