The Royal Palace

I have lived in Cambodia for six months now and I finally made it to the Royal Palace. In my defense, the Palace was closed to visitors the first two months I was here because King Sihanouk had recently passed. The grounds were beautiful but, for a $6.50 entrance fee, the Palace was slightly disappointing. Thankfully, that entrance fee included the Silver Pagoda. And in the Silver Pagoda is one of my favorite places in Phnom Penh. There is a little temple in the middle of the courtyard completely surrounded by trees and vines and moss and when you walk up the steps it feels as if you are entering a jungle. Then, there are fantastic Buddha statues all around. When you are up there, it feels like Phnom Penh is lightyears away.
